flexis optimizes the Parts Coverage in Container Handling

NEWS

The November issue of "FM The Logistics Journal" features an article by flexis. It deals with transparency and efficiency in the supply chain of automotive industry. In particular, it outlines the profitable optimization of demand coverage in container handling using flexis software.

Due to globalization, supply chains of automobile manufacturers are growing enormously complex. An increasing proportion of parts comes from distant regions to the production sites.

The issue is, that from the time of ordering to the date of arrival, the production program often changes. The demand for parts differs from the time the containers were loaded at the start of the transportation chain to the time they arrive at their destination and parts are delivered that aren’t needed any more, while needed parts are missing.

Hansjörg Tutsch describes in his article how flexis contributes to increasing productivity and efficiency at the container yard – for example by evaluating all available containers and visualizing which of them would fit the current demand best. An optimized inventory, proactive outsourcing and avoiding special actions lead to a least-cost coverage of demand in the end.
