BENCHMARKING INSIGHTS: GARTNER® SUPPLY CHAIN PLANNING TRENDS FROM TOP 25 COMPANIES

Unpack Network Complexity

STUTTGART, Germany April 2024 – The Gartner Supply Chain Planning Trends from Top 25 Companies report has been published in January 2024. As Gartner mentions, “this research shares insights on planning strategy trends leaders from the Gartner Supply Chain Top 25 for 2023 are adopting.”

In the analysis, the authors of this Gartner report stated that “To bring supply chains to the next level, supply chain planning leaders must reduce the complexity inherent in their supply chain network. Supply chains are more complex than ever before. In fact, according to the 2022 Gartner Supply Chain Technology User Wants and Needs Survey, supply chain network complexity represents one of the top three external challenges affecting goal achievement for supply chain organizations.”

The example of Schneider Electric Gartner explains that “Leaders found themselves contending with:

  • Inaccurate lead times, which led to missed customer commitments, erroneous communication and imprecise planning.

  • Suboptimal safety stock quantity, such as unhealthy stocks worth millions, and potential increases in backorders.

  • High nonquality costs (NQCs) and low yield from the factory.

The Gartner report says “To unbox SCP technology and realize the ROI behind the technology implementation, supply chain planning leaders should:

  • Invest in user adoption by analyzing the feedback from planners who are using the new technology tools and resolving the challenges they face.

  • Empower localized digitally enabled decisions by providing the digital tools local teams need and enabling them to make their own decisions.

  • Enable digital scenario planning capabilities across the planning organization by encouraging their teams to leverage technology to test and evaluate different scenarios within the planning cycles.”
