AUTLOG - Successful conclusion of research project

During the last three years flexis AG played a successful part in the research project AUTLOG, which was conducted by various industry and research partners and whose results were presented during the closing event of the “SPX/IPC/DRIVES”  trade fair in Nuremberg.

The key to connecting the two different worlds of automation and logistics lies in the identification and location information of the car body. Identification information is already available today because of the conventionally used identification systems.

This is not true, however, for the location information provided by the new localization technologies in closed production halls.

By connecting the two worlds, logistics gets car body related equipment information such as disruption and breakdown of production equipment. The benefit lies in the facilitation of faster reactions. This applies especially to changes to parts that are provided in sequence. Together with industry and research partners the coupling of AUTomation and LOGistics systems was developed and tested in the AUTLOG project.

Overriding project goals were:

  • to utilize the technology of wireless positioning and tracking and, building on that,
  • to develop new software components as a link between production control and the logistics system and, finally,
  • to demonstrate the benefit of the connection with the help of an example: the feedback of recently obtained information  from the control system  into sequence planning within the framework of a control loop.

In the context of AUTLOG flexis AG developed the pilot version of a planning solution that reacts quickly and efficiently to equipment disruptions, taking into consideration the newly occurring restrictions, and plans and monitors optimal order processing.
